George Terberg

In de jaren 10 is George in contact gekomen met beeldend kunstenaars, die werkten met metaal, polystyreen en acrylic-one. Hij is begonnen met de laatstgenoemde kunststoffen. Om de anatomie van de mens beter te leren begrijpen heeft hij een opleiding gevolgd bij Figura in Amsterdam. De realistische figuratieve beelden, die hij maakt zijn de basis om een zodanige compositie te maken, die maatschappelijk relevant is met een komisch accent. 

George is aangesloten bij het Montfoorts Kunstenaars Collectief.

About George Terberg

In the 1910s, George came into contact with visual artists working with metal, polystyrene, and acrylic. He began with the latter plastics. To better understand human anatomy, he trained at Figura in Amsterdam. The realistic figurative sculptures he creates form the basis for creating compositions that are socially relevant with a humorous edge.

George is a member of the Montfoort Artists Collective.

Geëxposeerd werk

Het werk is een reactie op de huidige interactie tussen de mens: met name de mens, die gebruik maakt van de huidige digitale media. Er wordt heel veel gedeeld, maar wat zit er eigenlijk achter? Er rijk van worden? Hierbij kijk ik bijvoorbeeld naar de influencers. Winstbejag ten koste van anderen. 

Daarom heb ik 2 dezelfde naakte mannelijke figuren tegenover elkaar gezet. Ze kijken elkaar aan vanuit een bepaalde hoek. De bedoeling is dat het als 1 persoon gezien dient te worden, die wat met zichzelf wil bewerkstelligen. Hoewel de houding van de man defensief is, stelt deze zich toch kwetsbaar op (naakt). Echter door beïnvloeding van buitenaf (digitale wereld, familie, vrienden, omgeving etc.) wordt een zelfreflectie tegengewerkt. Dit wordt weergegeven door de aanwezigheid van een plaat van plexiglas. De zelfreflectie geldt dus niet persé voor de man, maar ook voor de vrouw.

Het is de bedoeling dat de toeschouwer rond het beeld kan lopen om de kijkrichting van de twee mannen goed te zien. Zie ook tekst in lijst: Neem even de tijd om rustig om de gelijkende beelden te lopen. wat vertelt hun lichaamshouding van de een naar de ander? Is er een opening door de manier waarop ze naar elkaar gericht zijn? Is er toch wat aanwezig in de tussenruimte, wat hun zelfreflectie tegenhoudt? ................?

Afmetingen: De beelden resp. plexiglas plaat zijn 49 resp. 55 cm hoog. Het plateau is 36 x 55 cm groot

Materiaal: acrylic-one, OSB-plaat (zwart geverfd), aluminium en plexiglas.

Toegepaste techniek: Een figuur is naar model geboetseerd in klei. Hiervan is een siliconen mal gemaakt met steunkappen. Daarna zijn er 2 afgietsels gemaakt in acrylic-one. Deze staan op een OSB plateau, waarvan ook de sokkel is gemaakt. In een aluminium u-strip staat verticaal een plexiglas plaat van 36 x 55 cm.

Exhibited work

The work is a response to current human interaction: specifically, people using modern digital media. A great deal is shared, but what's actually behind it? The pursuit of wealth? Here, I look at influencers, for example. The pursuit of profit at the expense of others.

That's why I've placed two identical naked male figures opposite each other. They look at each other from a specific angle. The intention is for it to be seen as one person, trying to achieve something for themselves. Although the man's posture is defensive, he nevertheless makes himself vulnerable (naked). However, external influences (the digital world, family, friends, environment, etc.) hinder self-reflection. This is represented by the presence of a sheet of plexiglass. The self-reflection therefore applies not only to the man, but also to the woman.

The viewer is meant to be able to walk around the sculpture to clearly see the two men's gaze. See also the text in the frame: Take a moment to calmly walk around the similar sculptures. What does their posture reveal about each other? Is there a gap in the way they face each other? Is there something in the space between them that obstructs their self-reflection? ................?

Dimensions: The sculptures and plexiglass plates are 49 and 55 cm high, respectively. The platform is 36 x 55 cm.

Materials: Acrylic-one, OSB board (painted black), aluminum, and plexiglass.

Technique: A figure was sculpted from clay. A silicone mold with supporting caps was made from this. Then, two casts were made in Acrylic-one. These stand on an OSB platform, which also forms the base. A plexiglass plate measuring 36 x 55 cm stands vertically in an aluminum U-shaped strip.
