Irma van Zijl is de afgelopen jaren, na een carrière als commercieel grafisch ontwerper, langzaam ontpopt tot beeldend kunstenaar. Dit proces is ontstaan door de vast omlijnde definities van de materie en de ‘hokjes’ meer en meer los te laten. Haar werkproces en conceptvorming overstijgen het denken en voelen. Door haar frequenties regelmatig te verhogen lijken de beelden uit pure verbinding met haar onderbewuste, als een geschenk, tot haar te komen. De onweerstaanbare drang om deze ook werkelijk tot materiële uiting te brengen, heeft haar nu op het eindeloze pad van creatie gezet.

Irma’s werk kenmerkt zich door een subtiele maar gelaagde eenvoud in vorm en compositie. Eén van Irma’s klanten benoemde het heel treffend: ”Jouw werk raakt direct de essentie, is zeer gedetailleerd in eenvoud, maar toch ook tegen het abstracte aan.” Haar kunstwerken zijn qua uitvoering en materiaalgebruik zeer divers, waardoor haar werk niet direct onder één bepaalde kunstdiscipline kan scharen.

​De alles overkoepelende drijfveer van Irma haar artistieke uitingen is licht en liefde verspreiden. De wereld kan zichzelf al zo duister en soms uitzichtloos tonen dat zij zich in wil zetten om tegenlicht te creëren en te vlammen tegen de duisternis. Haar wens is een beeldende bijdrage te leveren omtrent bewustwordingsprocessen waar je als individu maar ook als maatschappij mee te maken kan hebben.

About Irma van Zijl

In recent years, after a career as a commercial graphic designer, Irma van Zijl has slowly emerged as a visual artist. This process arose from increasingly letting go of rigidly defined material definitions and "boxes." Her working process and conceptualization transcend thought and feeling. By regularly raising her frequencies, the images seem to come to her from a pure connection with her subconscious, like a gift. The irresistible urge to actually express this material has now set her on an endless path of creation.

Irma's work is characterized by a subtle yet layered simplicity of form and composition. One of Irma's clients aptly put it: "Your work immediately captures the essence, is very detailed in its simplicity, yet also verges on the abstract." Her artworks are highly diverse in terms of execution and use of materials, which is why her work cannot be immediately categorized under any specific art discipline.

The overarching motivation for Irma's artistic expression is to spread light and love. The world can seem so dark and sometimes hopeless that she wants to dedicate herself to creating a counterlight and flaming against the darkness. Her wish is to make a visual contribution to the awareness processes that you, as an individual and as a society, can experience.

Tweeluik "Speak no evil"  &  "Feel no evil"

Dit tweeluik is bedoeld om een spanningsveld te creëren tussen actie en reactie. Spreek je kwaad omdat je het kwaad al in je voelt? Of voel je het kwaad omdat je het kwaad uitspreekt? En wat voel je precies in je hart wanneer je kwaad denkt of spreekt? Een prikkelend onderwerp waarbij de kern van het verhaal over pure intentie gaat. Wat zou er gebeuren met de mensheid wanneer iedereen alleen nog vanuit pure liefde en goedheid, recht vanuit het hart met elkaar zou communiceren? Irma nodigt je uit om te reflecteren over het goed en kwaad en de regie die we daar zelf in hebben.

Diptych "Speak No Evil" & "Feel No Evil"

This diptych aims to create a tension between action and reaction. Do you speak evil because you already feel the evil within you? Or do you feel evil because you express it? And what exactly do you feel in your heart when you think or speak evil? A provocative subject, the core of the story revolves around pure intention. What would happen to humanity if everyone communicated with each other solely out of pure love and goodness, straight from the heart? Irma invites you to reflect on good and evil and the control we have over them.
