Sinds 2022 woont Martin in Almere haven.
After finishing secondary school, Martin was admitted to the Artibus Academy in Utrecht in 1967 and successfully completed the five-year Publicity Design/Graphic Design program in 1972. He subsequently lived in Friesland for a few years, earning a living as a pottery painter at the Koninklijke Tichelaar earthenware company in Makkum.
Despite the beauty of Friesland, he eventually craved more action; in 1976, he decided to make a sharp turn in his life and move to Amsterdam. Martin has lived in Almere Haven since 2022.
In late 1980, following a period of "restless wanderings," Martin decided to strike out on his own as a freelance graphic designer. This allows him to more or less support himself alongside his state pension while leaving enough time to pursue his work as a visual artist—creating prints, paintings, installations and constructions, sound collages, and writings, as well as whatever else comes his way. Ideas continue to insistently present themselves, ensuring there is still plenty for him to do. It is a pity, though, that a day lasts only 24 hours and that life can be lived only once!
